Learn how to remove a broken stud or a corroded bolt in this video from Partzilla.com!

“Every 30- minute job is just one broken bolt away from being a two-day ordeal.”

If this video was a movie, that would be the tagline.

This adventure started during our top end build on our YXZ1000R. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/-DEIuIk5KCw

We decided to replace the exhaust stud bolts, and things went sideways on the next-to-the-last stud. Corrosion made it nearly impossible to remove the stud, and in the process we broke it off in the head.

In this video, we’ll show you how to remove the broken exhaust stud and then use a Time-Sert to get the head repaired and install a brand-new stud.

First, we’ll try using a couple of nuts that we’ll TIG weld back-to-back. Sometimes that’s enough to get the extra leverage you need to extract the corroded bolt or stud. Unfortunately, our stubborn stud was having none of that.

In our case, the solution was to drill out the stud and use a Time Sert. John will guide you through his thinking as he drills out a clean hole and then he’ll show you how to install a Time-Sert. With that knocked out, we’ll get our new studs into place across the head.
