Watch the entire video as I show you the steps to replacing a Mercury Sable/Ford Taurus vehicle speed sensor (vss}. I reiterate everything I did to accomplish the job at the end of the video. Here are the steps to locating the vss and doing the job: Removal: First, properly raise the car into the air using a hydraulic lift. Locate the section of the exhaust where the 2 exhaust pipes from the headers combine to 1 pipe. This is located underneath the transmission. Take the 2 bolts out of the exhaust using an air gun. Next, undo the total of 4 bolts holding the 2 separate exhaust pipes next to the engine. Undo the exhaust hanger bolt holding the exhaust up. Don't undo the bolt all the way so it holds the exhaust up. Undo all four 02 sensors then take the hanger bolt out all the way and remove the exhaust completely. Locate the vss sensor itself. It will be located on the top portion of the transmission from underneath. It is black in color and will be covered by a shiny heat shield that easily slides off and away. Unplug the sensor from the rest of the wiring. Remove the 1 bolt holding the vss in place. Pull the sensor out. If you have trouble removing the sensor after the bolt has been removed, use a screw driver to pry the sensor out. Install: Take the new sensor and place it in the slot where the old sensor sat. Put the sensor in place by lining up where the bolt will be wrenched into place. Make sure to get the sensor is snug into place (as explained in the video). Then reconnect the sensor clip to the vss itself and slide the heat shield down over the sensor to cover it. Take the exhaust and carefully align it back into place (will take more than 1 person to do). When it is aligned, place the bolts and screw them into place as to hold the exhaust (DO NOT TIGHTEN THE BOLTS ALL THE WAY YET}. Make sure all the bolts are in place and fit before tightening them down. Tighten bolts. After the exhaust has been properly bolted and secured in place, connect the four 02 sensors to their corresponding wires. You will need to lower the car to connect the last sensor (as shown and explained in the video). Double check all your bolts and everything is securely fastened including the 02 sensors are properly clipped in. You are now done with the job.
