Today we do a deep dive on #1 how Steven Tyler sings the way he does, and #2 how you can sound a little bit more like him. From his greatest early vocal influences of Janis Joplin and Little Richard to his greatest performance influence Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler and Aerosmith have borrowed from the best to create something their own.
Super glad to have seen him perform live- it was actually the show at ABS on Long Island where he sustained an injury. This style of singing isn't about pushing, but it's also not for the faint of heart! I highly recommend a lot of training and a lot of scales before trying to do this kind of stuff.
And while Steven Tyler sings on a lot of vocal damage, we at vo1cehead don't want to damage our voice- we want to use some vocal fry to produce a similar effect. I hope that's clear- we want to be able to sing dirty and clean all the same!
