Here are 5 vocal care tips for singers that can help reduce sore throat, hoarseness and dehydration so you can improve your confidence and singing performance.
If you are doing vocal exercises on a regular basis and you're still worried that you might not have a healthy voice for your next performance, try these five things:
#1: Avoid spicy, acidic, sugary foods; they can cause raw voice, inflammation and dehydration. This includes coffee, alcohol, chocolate, tomatoes and peppers.
#2: Avoid dairy and wheat: These foods can cause phlegm (mucus build up), inflammation and laryngitis.
#3: Don't smoke: Smoking will burn your vocal cords and make your throat feel sore.
#4 : Drink lots of water. Singers need to stay hydrated, so drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. If you drink coffee or other caffeinated drinks, you need to drink more water to make up for those drinks' dehydrating effects.
#5: Drink warm herbal tea. Teas like chamomile, peppermint and ginger are very soothing for tired or sore vocal cords. No black or green tea, though.
