I am not a professional bookbinder, but have fallen in love with the process! Hope you enjoy this step by step tutorial on single page coptic stitch binding sewn across the spine. I learned this binding from Smith's Sewing Single Sheets - Non-adhesive Binding Volume 4 - I HIGHLY recommend his book series! Each thread is an independent sewing that enables you to use multiple colors if you like. Suggested supplies: - 2 book covers of your choice - Thick paper for book pages (I am using scraps of watercolor paper, but any thick paper, including cardboard and poster board works! - thread strong enough for bookbinding (I am using waxed polyester bookbinding thread) - beeswax - awl or something to poke holes with - curved needles (1 per hole/thread) - ruler - pencil - scissors - PATIENCE :) *When tying off leave a bit of excess thread. Do not cut the thread off right at the knot. Will help the knot stay put. — Hi, I’m Christine! An artist and art teacher who loves to create and share ideas to empower your own creative journey!
