Figuring out how to Sleep better with POTS is an essential piece of rebuilding your energy. After all, sleep is when our bodies regenerate themselves.
Personally, I struggled for years either unable to fall asleep or waking up feeling utterly exhausted. Looking back it was actually one of the first signs my autonomic nervous system ( the branch that goes awry with POTS) was stuck in a state of fight or flight, unable to shift into a restful state to sleep.
I know I'm not alone in having a history of poor sleep as many of the clients I work with come to me struggling to sleep well. We work together step by step so they can fall asleep faster and wake up with more energy.
Sleeping better is not all about nighttime habits either, although they are important too. Here are some key tips to start sleeping better:
1. Regulate your blood sugar
2. Find your exercise sweet spot
3. Be mindful of light exposure
4. Manage your stress level
5. Dial down your sensory inputs
