Transparent papers have a kind of magic to them—and today, I’m showing you exactly how I use them in one of my favorite exercises: grid collage. In this video, I’m working with a mix of translucent and transparent painted papers (including medical exam paper, wet strength tissue, and even coffee-stained scraps!) to build a deeply personal 6-part collage series inside my sketchbook.
You’ll see how I use different types of collage paper to create mood, memory, and movement—with layers that both reveal and conceal. I’m also sharing some personal stories along the way, from my grandmother’s handwritten recipes to my fishing heritage, and how these themes wove their way into the final piece.
