How to write out drum grooves on paper in the simplest way possible. This is the method I use for writing grooves in charts and for writing grooves out for students in lessons. This IS proper musical notation, with just a couple of “shorthand” adjustments for simplicity’s sake. Even if you’ve never read music before, I hope to get you reading (and writing!) basic grooves by the end of this video. In this segment we just focus on quarter notes and eighth notes, and we construct grooves involving simple 8th note timekeeping on the hi hats. If you’re having trouble learning grooves or remembering grooves in songs, learn how to WRITE THEM. This aids memorization a ton. Now you won’t waste time messing up a groove over and over, since you’ll have it written out in front of you to follow along to each time. Not to mention learning to write rhythms will get you well on your way to learning how to notate music for other pitched instruments as well.
