High Speed 2 (HS2) was an ambitious plan to bring England's railways up to date. Super fast trains leaving the capital would reach economic centres like Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds in record time, all the while closing the North-South divide. But the section north of Birmingham was cancelled in 2023 for silly British reasons.
But if you want maps of Manchester then there are few more modern and yet fascinating as those produced by the surveyors of HS2, who exhausted every route, approach, entry point and station possibility they could think of. Their work reveals more about Manchester and Salford than just how a modern railway would come to the world's first railway city.
