Workshop Project #41 - HP Logic Probe Kit Time for some logic level testing! TTL and CMOS even! During the 1970s, HP released a bunch of logic test gear. At the base end of the scale was this idea of portable probes that would immediately indicate and show information about logic level signals for a rough first step diagnostics. The concept is very similar to the typical test-bulb you might find in automotive applications, just tailored to the required high/low levels and current draw limits of logic circuits. While this simple tool might be a bit too simple for microcontrollers, PICs or similar highly integrated solutions, it still is useful to probe at the supporting circuitry, like sensor outputs or driving stages. The current pricing on eBay reflects that: I've seen probes with asking rates at the almost 200USD range. I got a pleasent surprise one day, when my safed search returned a complete kit for a... well... affordable rate. Kind of... "close your eyes before you click buy". Would be interesting to know for just how much these have sold originally; any info out there? Thanks to @CuriousMarc for pointing out that some of these came with BNC for power! I thought that the "Probe" sockets on the older devices was for some sort of optional active probe... I didn't make the connection between *these* probes and the BNC because every one I saw so far had the pin connectors for power. 0:00 Intro / Overview 1:40 Logic Probe: Disassembly and Cleanup 4:38 Logic Probe: Circuit Description and Feature Demo 6:43 Logic Pulser: Disassembly and Cleanup 9:14 Logic Pulser: Circuit Description and Feature Demo 11:04 Current Tracer: Disassembly and Cleanup 13:07 Current Tracer: Circuit Description and Feature Demo 14:00 Logic Clip: Cleanup 14:55 Logic Clip: Demo and Circuit Description 16:24 Micro Clips and Case Cleanup 17:40 Accessory Probe Tips (mostly) 18:50 Summary / Credits / Outtake Music (in order) My Train's A Comin' - Unicorn Heads Nine Lives - Unicorn Heads Wrong - Dan Henig Town of 24 Bars - Unicorn Heads Light Expanse - Unicorn Heads (YouTube Audio Library) HP Journal about the logic probes: http://hparchive.com/Journals/HPJ-1976-12.pdf You can support me on Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/atkelar and also on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/Atkelar and now also here by using the "Super Thanks" feature!
