From unlocking the power of the human brain to mental privacy and the delicate balance between manipulation and control, discover the ethical questions shaping our digital future in which humans and AI merge through the neural interface. Marcello Ienca warns that neural interfaces should upgrade, not degrade human beings. For this to be possible, fundamental human rights related to the brain and mind, i.e. neurorights, must be protected. This TED talk confronts us with a historical crossroads in the interaction between human intelligence and AI: that between parasitism and mutualistic symbiosis, and points the way towards avoiding the former and pursuing the latter. Marcello Ienca is a Professor of Ethics of AI and Neuroscience at the Technical University of Munich and a Senior Scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, in Lausanne. His research focuses on the ethics of human-machine interaction, with a particular interest in the responsible development and human rights implications of neurotechnologies, artificial intelligence, big data, robotics and virtual environments. Marcello Ienca will address these topics on the TEDx stage, with a specific emphasis on the concept of "neurorights". This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
