The HURT 100 (Hawaiian Ultra Running Team 100-Mile Endurance Run) is one of the most challenging ultramarathons in the world. Held annually in January in the mountains above Honolulu, Hawaii, this grueling race takes runners through the lush and rugged trails of the Ko'olau Mountain Range.
A Brutal Challenge
The HURT 100 is known for its extreme difficulty, featuring over 24,500 feet of elevation gain across five 20-mile loops through tropical rainforests, steep ascents, technical descents, and slippery, root-covered terrain. With high humidity, stream crossings, and unpredictable weather, it’s a true test of endurance, mental strength, and perseverance.
A Coveted Finish
The race has a 36-hour time limit, and finishing is a major accomplishment, as the dropout rate is often high due to the harsh conditions. Unlike many ultras, the HURT 100 does not offer prize money—just the immense satisfaction of conquering one of the toughest races on the planet.
