I have been looking at buying a curved soprano saxophone forever, here were my options:
Vintage (Conn, buescher, etc)- medium cost to buy, guaranteed to require some shop work and maintenance. Likely poor intonation compared to newer saxes, but would hold value much better.
Newer high end- Yani, etc at several thousands of dollars would get me a great instrument, hold value, but be tough to sell if I didn't like it or didn't play it much. Not much character.
Mid and Low end saxes- everything from no name knock offs on eBay up to Kessler midrange ones. No resale value, really hard to determine if I would get a good instrument.
Ultimately I wound up buying this one, given Amazon's killer return policy and overall good reviews. Tough to know which reviews are fake, but really glad I gambled. Here is the exact one I bought-
