I build a better winter bike from on old Fuji Sportif with a 1X drivetrain and fenders. I do it right, too, including a Shimano 1X drivetrain, some home-brew tubeless tires and full fenders. I had my doubts when I started, but it turns out great and in the end, I actually like it. I clean up the frame, touch up the paint, make some new parts to convert it to a 1X drivetrain, fit new fenders and fill the tires with sealant. I then take it out for a good ride and we assess whether it was worth it and what I'd do differently. In the end, I have a nice winter bike that I can actually use in the winter.
