Join me for a truly special experience as I cook authentic Sri Lankan Rice & Curry with a local family! 🇱🇰🍛
We start the day by meeting our close Sri Lankan friends, whom we first met in 2020. Every time we visit, they welcome us like family. Together, we head to the Sunday local market to shop for fresh ingredients. The whole family joins—husband, wife, their two kids, the wife’s sister, and their mother, who is the main chef for today’s meal. While we pick out fresh vegetables, calamari, and rice, my husband takes our son and the two brothers for a quick ice cream stop 🍦.
After shopping, we move to their beautiful community space—a place they’ve transformed over the years into a hub for events, yoga, hippie markets, parties, billiard tournaments, and boat tours on the river. It’s an authentic and unique spot, perfect for cooking together!
👩🍳 Cooking from Scratch!
They teach me how to prepare each curry step by step, completely from scratch. I even try my hand at grating coconut the traditional way 🥥 to make fresh coconut milk and cream! We cook:
✅ Pumpkin Curry
✅ Baby Jackfruit Curry
✅ Dhal Curry
✅ Village Greens Curry
✅ Calamari Curry
✅ Coconut Sambal (Pol Sambal)
✅ Rice
✅ Salad
✅ Pappadam
✅ Fresh Jackfruit for dessert
Finally, we all sit down on a boat to share this incredible homemade feast together! 🚤🍛
This experience was more than just cooking—it was about friendship, family, and the warm hospitality of Sri Lanka. ❤️ If you love food and culture, don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more authentic experiences!
