I tested ALL of the most popular brands that make water-based alkyd paint to find which paints applied and finished the best. Plus, I tested durability with a scratch and scrub test after 24 hours, 30 days and a 90 day cure time.

Water-based alkyd urethane paints have all the benefits of an oil-based paint in a water-based formular. Alkyd paint is one of the best types of paint for cabinets and furniture because it applies and levels beautifully, cures to a durable finish so there's no need for a topcoat, and best of all, is easy to clean up with water.
Brands tested include: Benjamin Moore Advance, Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel, Insl-x Cabinet Coat, Valspar Cabinet and Furniture Oil-Enriched Enamel, Behr Urethane Alkyd Enamel, Dutch Boy Platinum Plus Cabinet Door and Trim, and ProClassic Acrylic Alkyd.
