Near the end of July 2024, I hosted the 6th edition of GameQuest at my house with my brothers and best friends. This year's event featured the intense and nostalgic Nintendo World Championships NES Edition!
Tournament Players:
Brooks (Host)
Austin
Connor
Reid
Conner R.
Brian
Erik
Tournament Format:
We started with a 6-player free-for-all qualifier, playing the 'First Time Speedrunner' challenge. Based on the results, we split into two groups for the subsequent rounds. Throughout the tournament, we faced off in classic Nintendo challenges including 'First-Time Speedrunner,' 'Short & Sweet,' 'Collector's Paradise,' 'Super Mario Bros. 3 101,' 'Quick Classics,' and 'NES Cup '84 - '86.'
Highlights:
Round 1: Reid takes the lead in 'First-Time Speedrunner,' followed by intense matches in 'Short & Sweet' with Erik, Austin, and Conner R neck and neck.
Round 2: Austin dominates 'Collector's Paradise,' and Brooks shines in 'Super Mario Bros. 3 101.'
Round 3: Reid edges out a win in 'Quick Classics,' while Brooks stays consistent in 'NES Cup '84 - '86.'
Semi-Finals:
Erik vs. Reid in the 'NES Triathlon' – Erik wins by just two games to one!
Austin vs. Brian in 'A Mad Dash' – Austin wins by three games to one!
Final Round:
The grand finale, 'The Ultimate Speedrun,' sees a stunning comeback by Austin, who wins by just 12 seconds in a challenge that took over 20 minutes!
Congratulations to Austin, our new GameQuest champion! 🎉
