Hi ! So happy you are here, I recently ran my first half marathon and wanted to share with you pre race, day of race and post race. I share some valuable tips and lessons I learned that hopefully encourage you, not to run a half marathon but to do something that gets you out of your comfort zone! 3 lessons I learned ๐๐๐
1. It is just you /// As someone who grew up cheering for team sports, I had never actually experienced what it felt like to achieve something on my own. This race taught me the power of personal achievement. While your community, friends, and family are amazing supporters and sources of encouragement, itโs ultimately your determination that carries you across the finish line! It is up to YOU and perseverance.
2. Your mind will quit before your body does \\\ You will hit a pivotal moment; a critical turning point (mine was mile 9.5). At that point, it becomes a MENTAL game. You will want to quit; youโre hurting. Even though there are only about 3 miles to go, it is pure mental toughness at that point. The two things that got me through were prayer and David Goggins... and โJumpโ by Van Halen at the end :)
3. Donโt just finish the race; finish strong /// As you are approaching the finish line, the last 15-20 seconds stretch is go time. I sprinted (as fast as I could at that point) across the line. I was determined to finish STRONG. That last sprint truly made me realize this isnโt my last race ๐.
