📍 Sueyoshi Shrine
1-8 Sueyoshicho Shuri, Naha City, Okinawa
The main hall, built in the Ryukyu Shrine style, was designated a national treasure in 1930, but was destroyed during the Battle of Okinawa.
The site is now designated as a national "historic site" as the "Sueyoshi Shrine Ruins."
This main hall was also bombarded during the fierce Battle of Okinawa, and exploded, leaving only the building's foundation stones, two pillars, and a rainbow beam. The shrine building that can be seen today was restored in 1972 using the remaining foundation stones and materials.
In addition, the stone steps made of Ryukyu limestone at the time of the construction of the old main hall are called "Toudou" and are a prefectural cultural property.
Places of worship have been established around the Sueyoshi Shrine Ruins, and they are the object of people's faith.
