Competitive Singles has not been kind to the Ice type. With 4 weaknesses and only a single resistance to itself, Ice is a horrendous type defensively and an active liability.
While Ice type was excellent in Gen 1 due to a lack of Super effective attacks in the game to threaten them, and Usable in 2 and 3, the type fell off a cliff in Gen 4 with the release of Stealth Rock.
The Physical Special Split also opened the floodgates for many more super effective attacks to threaten the very existence of Ice types.
