A lawyer believes the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte will show the public what kind of leaders have been elected in the Senate.
Atty. Rico Domingo, a former president of the Philippine Bar Association and chairman of the Movement Against Disinformation, said the trial will allow senators to show their integrity and their fealty and loyalty to the country.
“Makikita ng mga tao kung sino sila, anong klaseng mga tao itong hinalal,” he told DZMM.
He added the trial could help increase the political maturity of voters, which could affect their choices in the next elections.
“Tao na ang maghuhusga sa kanila,” he said.
Senators are set to take their oaths as impeachment court judges later Tuesday following the oath-taking of Senate President Francis Escudero as the presiding officer of the impeachment court.
Members of the House of Representatives impeached Duterte last February over a string of complaints including alleged misuse of confidential funds and an alleged threat to assassinate President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, claims that Duterte has denied.
