A common soft military sun hat, the boonie hat is used by armies throughout the world in their warm or tropical weather uniforms. Originating from concepts developed by British, Australian, American, French, and other armed forces deployed to hot climates, the boonie hat as we now know it was truly developed during the Vietnam War and continues to be used to this day. Predecessors such as the British Bush Hat or Australian Giggle Hat also continue to be used, and it has spread to civilian circles.
