Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal Party has won Canada’s federal election, the country’s national broadcaster, the CBC, has projected.
The victory marks a turnaround for the Liberals, who were polling badly after nearly a decade in power but were fueled by a wave of patriotism in the wake of US President Donald Trump’s threats to Canada’s economy and sovereignty.
It’s not yet clear if the Liberals will win an outright majority.
The former central banker replaced former prime minister Justin Trudeau to lead the Liberal party earlier this year before he called the snap election.
