'Lucy' is the most famous hominid fossil in all of paleoanthropology. But why is she so significant? ELLIE MCNUTT is an Assistant Professor of Instruction working in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her interests include the evolution of bipedal locomotion and the effect of forces on bone development. MARK from Evolution Soup talks with Ellie about human bipedality, Lucy (Australopithecus afarensis) and the astounding Laetoli footprints - a snapshot of three-million-year-old hominid behaviour. #lucy #laetoli #bipedalism Afar drone footage by Chris Horsley Thumbnail image: Lucy reconstruction by Élisabeth Daynès @atelier_daynes 00:00 START 01:43 Ellie's Background 05:57 Ellie's Research 12:01 The Story of Lucy 20:59 Lucy's Species 26:38 The Laetoli Footprints 36:07 Trackway 'A' 47:00 Future Projects LINKS FOR ELLIE MCNUTT SITE: https://mcnuttej.wixsite.com/ellisonmcnutt TWITTER: @bones_on_the_go https://twitter.com/bones_on_the_go RESEARCH: Footprint evidence of early hominin locomotor diversity at Laetoli, Tanzania https://bit.ly/3FC4NiQ Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine: https://www.ohio.edu/medicine/ Interviews powered by https://streamyard.com/ #evolutionsoup #evolution #paleo #paleontology #paleoartist #Homosapiens #hominid #artwork #Darwin #cave #bone #fossils #Neanderthal #australopithecus #hominin #extinct #animals #science #anthropology #paleoanthropology #genus #species #africa #skull #skulls #naturalselection #lucy #paleontology #lucy --------------- SUBSCRIBE to Evolution Soup: http://bit.ly/2pUOYSb FOLLOW Evolution Soup Instagram & Twitter! @evolution_soup SUBSCRIBE to the Podcast! http://evolutionsoup.buzzsprout.com [RSS feed: https://feeds.buzzsprout.com/354743.rss] In association with Talk Beliefs YouTube Channel: http://bit.ly/2lA6YOv DISCLAIMER: Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
