I've always been a fan of Fujifilm's X-Txx (double digit) compact APS-C mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. The previous X-T30 was so awesome I almost bought one; but realized I needed some professional features for my travels. I ended up buying the boring but powerful X-T4, and I still use it today. When I first saw the new X-T50 (Fujifilm decided to skip the name X-T40 to match the 5th generation sensor and processor), I didn't like the sloping top panel. It bothered me so much, I put off reviewing it until a few months after its release. However, once I got it in-hand, it didn't look so bad. In fact, the look grew on me. I still prefer the boxy design of the previous X-T30, but the curvy and angular look of the new X-T50 is a good look.
As the little brother to the X-T5, there's nothing to complain about the X-T50. Fujifilm almost put too much in this new version. It basically matches the main specifications of the X-T5 (sensor, processor, IBIS, firmware, video specs, etc.). However, for $300 more, the X-T5 has a fully weather-sealed professional build body, dual high speed card slots, higher resolution and magnification EVF, better thermals for heat dissipation, higher performance mechanical shutter, and much better ergonomics and dial-button layout. Because of this, either the X-T5 is underpriced, or the X-T50 is overpriced. If the X-T50 is struggling to sell, I recommend Fujifilm bundle it with a compact prime, like the XF27mm f/2.8 R WR, XF16mm f/2.8 R WR, or XF35mm f/2 R WR.
Please enjoy my review and my thoughts on the new X-T50. Overall I think the camera is great, but has a bit of an identity crisis. I personally wouldn't buy it for myself.
