Inside a tiny DIY Japanese campervan. We are currently road tripping Japan in our DIY self converted campervan bus and exploring Aomori Prefecture, the most northern prefecture on the Japanese island of Honshu.
In this video, we meet Mr. Yamamoto, a professional campervan builder who builds out tiny DIY campervans in Japan. He uses small kei vans for his campervan conversions and gives us a van tour of the campervan interiors. We have spent the last 12 months working on our very own DIY campervan build here in Japan and it was very interesting to meet Mr. Yamamoto who is doing similar work and see and experience his unique ideas.

WHO AM I? I’m Shota and I left Japan at the age of 19 and spent 9 years travelling and discovering the world. In early 2020, I returned to Japan with my Scottish girlfriend Ruth and we converted an old delivery van into a DIY camper van to live in full-time. We spent 18 months doing full-time van life in Japan and visited many incredible places off the beaten path. While on our van trip, we spontaneously purchased an ex-Japanese police bus we saw for sale and took on the challenge of converting it into our dream off-grid tiny home on wheels!
