Hey guys! Today, we are taking you to Rome, the capital of Italy, the Eternal City, but this time with a twist. We included our audience by asking them to vote on Instagram for the places we should visit and the things we should do—and whichever they chose, we made it happen!
Before we dive in, a special thanks to our sponsor, Hover Air! Their pocket-size portable drone, made capturing our journey around Rome a breeze. Now, let’s go back to our Roman adventure!
In Rome, we stayed at a Home Exchange, which is a great way to avoid hotels, save money, and experience places just like locals do. These are real homes, so they have everything you need for a cozy and comfortable stay. Check out Home Exchange here and use coupon code: GUWB to save 10% off your membership. https://growingupwithoutborders.com/homeexchange
On our first day, we left the house right at sunrise in the hopes of avoiding the crowds, but this is Rome—one of the busiest tourist destinations in the world—so it seems a lot of people had the same idea!
Our first stop was the iconic Colosseum, which, luckily, was only a few metro stops away from our Home Exchange. It was as magnificent as ever. Did you know that the Colosseum could hold between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators? It was the largest amphitheater ever built.
And while the crowds were already gathering, we were early enough to snap some awesome photos and videos.
Believe it or not, Angelique had never had coffee before! So what better place than Rome to have her first shot of espresso? We found a local coffee shop and treated ourselves to authentic Italian espresso and pastries.
Next up, our followers sent us to Palatine Hill, one of the seven hills on which Rome was built. We enjoyed walking through the beautiful gardens and feeling the spirit of ancient times while surrounded by Roman ruins. Not only is Palatine Hill historically significant, but it also offers incredible views of Rome—perfect for taking photos!
Palatine Hill, where we strolled, is believed to be the birthplace of Rome, where the first settlements began.
On our way to lunch, we stopped at Piazza Venezia and enjoyed a quick finger-licking Italian lunch. Afterward, we had to visit a special leather shop we found 10 years ago. This time, we tried to recreate a photo we took there back then, and it was a total success!
Our final stop of the day was the breathtaking Trevi Fountain. It was crowded, as expected, so we decided to return the next morning to enjoy it with fewer people around.
The next day, we made our way back to the Trevi Fountain, tossed in our wishing coins, and took in the beauty of the fountain with a little more peace and quiet. Afterward, we climbed the famous Spanish Steps, an iconic spot in Rome, where we soaked in the amazing view from the top.
And finally, we couldn’t leave Rome without visiting the Vatican City—the smallest independent state in the world, both in terms of population and area. Did you know the Vatican is home to just over 800 people? It's also the spiritual and administrative center of the Roman Catholic Church, and within its walls is the stunning St. Peter’s Basilica, which took over 120 years to complete!
All in all, our trip to the Eternal City was incredible. Rome might be crowded, but it’s bursting with soul and history, and we can’t wait to explore more of it in the future.
