Exploring artificial intelligence and reinforcement learning
Patrick has been actively pursuing intelligent systems and biomedical device research for over a decade. As a postdoctoral fellow with the Alberta Innovates Centre for Machine Learning (AICML) and the Reinforcement Learning & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at University of Alberta, he leads the Adaptive Prosthetics Project: an interdisciplinary initiative focused on creating intelligent artificial limbs for amputees. Patrick also develops new techniques for rapid cancer screening through his work on hand-held medical devices. He is the author of more than twenty peer-reviewed articles and is co-inventor of two international patent filings involving machine intelligence for lab-on-a-chip medical systems. Patrick is the recipient of an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship in Artificial Intelligence, and holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Alberta.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
