We are replacing the internal zincs (or anodes) on this 2001 250HP Yamaha during the rebuild process and found the current zinc almost gone. Tim Hogan, owner of Outboard Exchange in Waterford, CT, explains exactly how they work and why you should make checking them part of your regular maintenance routine.

We have been re-manufacturing outboards for over 30 years. In that time we have learned which motors are the most reliable in the long run. We believe that the history of an outboard over its life span is the best judge of its quality and reliability. Check out all the models we rebuild on our website at http://outboardexchange.netIf you'd like a copy of any of the documents we mention in our videos please feel free to send us an email and we would be happy to share them with you.
