G'day all! Welcome to my Victorian High Country Mini-Series. Come along, and we'll show you that you don't need to do these really difficult, challenging or extreme 4wd tracks to experience some of the best sights the High Country has to offer. Theres a very special place down in South Eastern Australia. A land full of Adventure, Rugged Landscapes, Stunning Wilderness, Breath-taking Alpine Meadows, Mountain Vistas, Crystal Clear rivers, Incredible 4wd tracks, Magnificent Alpine Huts. Its the Aussie High Country. People keep asking me why i spend so much time down here in the mountains. I mean, i would have thought its pretty clear by now. Just look at it! Those crisp mornings, the fresh air, the sunrises and sunsets, the peace and quiet, the wild weather, and waking up to a mountain panorama or a curious kangaroo poking around camp. I've spent my fair share of time in the Snowies and the NSW High Country, with all its wild beauty. But Its now time to set my sights a bit further south, across the border, into Victoria. So Join us over the next 7 days, as we take you into the Victorian High Country, and show you that you can have the Quintessential High Country experience, without really having to do those extreme, butt cheek clenching, profanity riddled, wheel lifting, axle breaking, "getting to camp at midnight because we had a massive recovery", 4wd tracks, and to see some of the most jaw-dropping and spectacular sights that only the High Country has to offer. Lets go! Starting of in Jindabyne, we make our way south of the border, to experience some of the best sights of the High Country. We travel through some of the best spots and towns, including Orbost, Bruthen, Dargo, Hotham, Omeo, Falls Creek, Bright, Mount Buffalo, Mansfield, Mt Stirling and Geehi. We planned to take in some Easy, scenic 4wd tracks around the High Country, as well as visit some of the magnificent Alpine Huts, scattered around Alpine and High Country. This trip had a mixed bag of everything. Rain, wind, thunder, heavy fog, sun. Everything, but the snow! A true High Country experience. The temperatures were quite warm. Very warm! Especially for the mountains, and this was especially noticeable climbing up, and then back down into the valleys, where the temps were often 8-10 degrees warmer. In Episode 1, we head south along the Barry Way, a sensational, scenic road, traveling through the Byadbo Wilderness and Kosciuszko National Park. Skirting alongside the Snowy River, the Barry way takes in 2 awesome lookouts, the Wallace Craigie and Jacks Lookouts. They give a fantastic lookout into the Snowy River Valley and Byadbo Wilderness. We also had a look into the past, with the Suggan Buggan historic schoolhouse, which has been preserved really well! We crossed the border, and then jumped onto the McKillops Road, taking in the awesome Little River Gorge. A perfect example of how pictures and videos don't do justice to these sights, before arriving at one of the most impressive structures and sights in all the High Country: Mckillops Bridge. I had seen so many pictures and videos of this bridge beforehand, but it never compares to seeing and driving it in person. We then hightailed it to Orbost, and setup camp in Wood Point Campground, right on the banks of the lower Snowy River, to finish, what was an EPIC day. Enjoy!
