Intro to Fly Fishing with Soft Hackles
Soft hackles are a great tactic to cover water and imitate hatching insects on trout streams. This method of fly fishing has been around for quite some time and seems to be often overlooked by many anglers these days. This video is nothing new or ground breaking in terms of tactics, but will hopefully explain this classic technique and inspire you to give it a try if you haven't already.
Soft hackles can be fished as a single fly or as a double rig. Even though many people only think of soft hackles as a technique for caddis hatches they can work great during mayfly hatches too and are fishable spring through fall. If you find yourself fishing to fickle fish and dry fly flies or emergers are getting the job done try swing soft hackles to feeding fish, many times this can be just the ticket. Plus the tight line grab can be very exciting!
There are numerous other ways to fish soft hackles so have fun with them!
