Shugendo is faith to revere nature. Mt. Hiko (Hikosan), rising 1,199m above sea level in the southern part of Fukuoka prefecture of Kyushu, Japan, is one of Japan’s three major mountains for ascetic practice (shugen), along with Mt. Haguro (Hagurosan) in Yamagata prefecture and the mountains of Ōmine (Ōminesan) in Nara prefecture. Shugendō consists of a combination of various religious and cultural practices and ideas, including nature worship, mountain cults, folk belief, Shinto, Buddhism, Daoism, Five Elements thought, astronomy, and pharmacology.（MEXT/JSPS KAKENHI Grant Number JP 16K02314, Associate Prof.Tomotari of Kyushu University )
