Nikon's D40 represented the first foray in the true entry-level DSLR market for Nikon. Succeeded by the Nikon D3000-series cameras, the D40 founded Nikon's entry-level DSLR family with strong DNA comprised of good image quality, no-frills usability, and a clean-ish menu system.
