Richard demonstrates a Qulleq, an Inuit Oil Lamp.
Made from soapstone, the Qulleq traditionally would hold seal or whale blubber, which would burn to generate heat and light.
Richard adapts the fuel used depending on what is available, and here for example he uses hare or moose droppings.
The Qulleq played an important part in Inuit life, bringing light, heat, and also sometimes used for cooking.
Today the Qulleq plays more of a ceremonial role and is not used in daily life.
