If you've watched many of my Traditional Archery and Recurve bow shooting tips videos you'll know that I put a lot of focus on bow and arrow tuning. One aspect of tuning longbows and recurves is arrow spine. Spine is a way to measure how stiff the arrow shaft is and it can have a big impact in arrow flight and retention of energy.

In this shooting tips video Clay Hayes explains why tuning and arrow spine are important. Even though it is still possible to group mismatched arrows at relatively close distances, an improperly matched arrow with a spine too weak or heavy for the bow can rob energy as the fletchings compensate and straighten the arrows flight.

If we bow hunt with our archery gear, conserving energy is of great value when it comes to penetration. Although it isn't critical for being able to group arrows with relative accuracy, spending a little time tuning the arrows to the bow will help conserve energy for bowhunting.

Don't forget to subscribe to the channel. We're uploading a new video each week that features one of the following topics: how to shoot a recurve bow, archery, bow hunting, bow building, survival skills, bushcraft, self reliance, primitive skills, primitive bows, hunting, camping, fishing, and a lot more!
