There have been plenty videos debunking the reverse sword grip as impractical fantasy shenanigans... often with a certain amount of bias. So this time I want to approach it as fairly as I can, looking at various pros and cons to see if it's really completely useless.
Don't get your hopes to high to see a full redemption of anime ninja fighting styles... but maybe we can avoid over-stating the negatives and actually find some realistic merits here and there. :)
Of course it also depends a lot on the sword. An arming sword with large crossguard and a long blade is much less suited to this unconventional fighting style than a more compact weapon like a Filipino Ginunting. With knives and daggers an ice-pick grip is perfectly conventional, but swords are a different story.
Speaking of stories, perhaps this video can serve as inspiration for game masters in DnD or other RPGs, fantasy writers, artists, etc.
