Sir Keir Starmer has been accused of “fudging the facts” about his education by Sir Peter Lampl, a top social mobility expert.
Lampl, founder of the Sutton Trust and former adviser to Tony Blair, criticised Starmer’s VAT plan for private schools in The Telegraph, arguing it limits opportunities for poorer students.
Starmer attended Reigate Grammar when it was council-funded, but it became independent two years later. The council covered fees for existing students, and Starmer received a bursary for sixth form. Today, the school charges up to £9,150 per term.
