In 1989 Games Workshop released arguably their greatest board game - the sci-fi dungeon crawler Space Hulk. Designed by Richard Halliwell, Space Hulk was inspired by the Alien and Aliens movies and gave players the chance to play tense, frenetic, and fun missions in the derelict space craft.

The desperate battle between man and alien was a 2 player game using plastic Citadel miniatures representing the recently created Space Marine Terminators and the newly redesigned Genestealers. This was the perfect distillation of Warhammer 40,000 themes, offering the most intense games in the 40k universe you could imagine.

I explore the origins of the game, its expansions, its heroes, and its villains.
