Imagine you look out your front door, and no matter the direction you look you can’t see a soul. The only company you have is a couple dogs, and a horse. Every day rain or shine, your task is to saddle your horse, and keep a group of sheep together, happy, and healthy using dogs in an area with no fences, gates, or help in sight. Do you think you could do it?
We live In a world where people are becoming so disconnected from their roots that they have no idea where their food and fiber comes from, or how it comes to be, luckily Theres still some out there living a dying way of life. out there everyday doing what they do so that others can be fed and clothed. During the winter I have the chance to spend a lot of time on our winter range. Sheep need water every day and when there is no snow we need to bring the water to them. That’s where I come in. If we have a winter with very little snow, I get to spend time on our winter range hauling water from various springs and wells to the where the sheep are so they don’t need to walk as much. Spending time on the desert means spending time with our guys. There are few things that put a smile on my face like talking to these guys. To us they are like family. Although my Spanish is less than perfect I love being able to talk to them, to hear their stories of home, to feel their optimism and gratitude for being able to provide a better life for their family. I love our way of life and what we do wouldn’t be possible without the amazing work these guys do every day. Meet Felix, and the amazing life he lives every day out here on the range!
