Welcome to Itabira, Minas Gerais, a city that carries a cultural and economic legacy of great importance to the state and to Brazil. 📜 History of Itabira
The history of the city dates back to the 18th century, when bandeirantes arrived in the region in search of gold. The name Itabira comes from the Tupi-Guarani language and means "shining stone", a reference to the mineral wealth found in the area. Over time, mining became the city's main economic activity. However, it was only on October 9, 1848 that Itabira achieved its political emancipation and became a municipality.
