Annual Europe trip from May of 2023. Starting in Rome and taking the train to Naples. Then from Naples to Sorrento where we did some tours.
Day 3: we made our way to the train station in Rome where we booked first class train tickets to Naples. After settling into our hotel, we explored Naples and took a guided tour of Naples underground. We finished the evening with a couple of drinks on the rooftop.
Day 4: After sharing a meal on the rooftop of our hotel, we explored the Spanish Quarter in Naples and made our way up the steps to Castel Sant’Elmo. We walked through the castle and watched a thunderstorm roll in. Stopping for pizza and a bottle of wine was a must before boarding the ferry to go across the Bay of Naples to Sorrento. We settled into our hotel and walked to the coast in Sorrento and shared a drink and watched the sunset.
Day 5: We had a private driver (his name was Pippo) waiting for us after breakfast to chauffeur us for the day. He took us to Pompeii where another private tour guide was waiting for us. The city was amazing and surreal to see how civilized the society was in that era of time. After Pompeii, we headed up the still active volcano and had lemoncello variations along the way. After the short hike to the rim of the volcano, we shared a glass of Prosecco and took in the views of the cities below, the Bay of Naples, inside the crater, and the island of Capri in the distance. After we made our way down, our tour ended at Cantina del Vesuvio Wintery. The food and wine pairings were top notch and delicious as expected. The day ended with some pasta and local wines at a nearby restaurant by our hotel.
