Welcome to Borghetto sul Mincio! The name of this charming, tiny medieval village translates to "fortified settlement", and has been epicenter of culture, battles, and trades for many centuries. Borghetto sul Mincio has won the hearts of locals and tourists alike as one the most-loved hidden-gems in Italy, filled with rich culture and history dating back to 8th century AD.
Perhaps the most interesting "fun fact" about Borghetto sul Mincio is that it's the birthplace of the famous tortellini of Valeggio, and the village takes pride in honoring the history of the "love knot" with an annual festival dedicated entirely to this famous dish, called "festa del nodo d'amore" or "love knot festival".
Festa del nodo d'amore dates back to the ancient legend of the Ninfae Silvia falling in love with the guard's captain, Malco, and their eternal devotion of their love for each other, symbolized by by tying a knot. To this day, the origin of tortellini pasta is still traced back to this legend, and "the love knot festival" tradition is celebrated, year after year, on the Visconteo bridge, overlooking this beautiful, medieval settlement.
