The Ukraine-Russia War has been gaining momentum, especially recently with Ukraine's attacks on strategic facilities on Russian territory using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and missiles.

Efforts are being made to weaken Russian war capacity by targeting gunpowder and explosive production centers such as the chemical plant in Bryansk.

These facilities are responsible for the production of gunpowder and explosives used in cruise missiles such as the Kh-59, as well as barreled artillery and multiple launch rocket systems.

The intensification of UAV attacks shows that Ukraine aims to increasingly damage the Russian army's supply routes and defense industry.

Fires that broke out in areas close to the Russian border and attacks confirmed by public authorities have not been prevented despite the Moscow administration's air defense measures.

While the Russian Ministry of Defense does not directly address the issue of the failure to prevent the attacks, the Ukrainian side clearly states that it is directing its attacks at "Russian facilities that support the war effort."

Moreover, with the intensification of the war on the Zaporizhia front, it is seen that both sides are frequently engaged in clashes with artillery systems, tanks, mortars and even fighter jets.

Ukraine's efforts to destroy Russian air defense systems continue with the targeting of high-value defense elements such as S-300 launchers.

The loss of these systems reduces Russia's capacity to prevent air operations in Ukraine.

On the other hand, recent intelligence reports show that Russia has suffered great losses in men and materials, that its efforts to create a modern professional army have faltered and that it is increasingly turning to a policy of "quantity over quality".

In addition to mobilized troops, the losses of fighters from private military companies such as Wagner and even from among prisoners have also increased rapidly.

In addition, older groups are joining the army due to reasons such as economic difficulties or propaganda effects and are suffering high casualties.

The Ukrainian army has been able to slow down the advance of Russian troops thanks to the weapons it has received from Western countries.

According to the UK Ministry of Defence, the Russians have lost a large number of armoured vehicles and tanks, but are trying to make up for this by using Soviet-inherited stocks.

Despite this, Russian advances on the front slowed significantly in early 2025. The Russian administration’s indifference to high casualty rates is ensuring that the ground-based offensive continues.

Another important development is the framework agreement between Ukraine and the US on critical mineral and energy resources.

Ukraine’s home to strategic minerals such as lithium, titanium, graphite and rare earth elements is combined with the US’s desire for post-war reconstruction and “recovery”.

US President Donald Trump claims that the revenues from the use of these resources will support “Ukraine’s right to fight”, but it is not clear exactly what security guarantees will be given.

According to the agreement, a certain portion of the revenues from Ukraine’s state-controlled underground resources, including oil and gas, will be transferred to the joint fund; This fund will also finance projects aimed at rebuilding the country.

However, there is no clear commitment regarding the security guarantees that Ukraine is demanding.

The potential rapprochement between the US and Russia is viewed with concern in Europe and Kiev.

Although Russian President Vladimir Putin has raised the possibility of an agreement with the US by citing the larger rare earth element reserves in his own territory, it is thought that the mineral agreement that Ukraine reached with the US could weaken Moscow's hand.
