Happy PIP (Hatch) Watch Day 1. We are looking for any signs of an eaglet breaking the egg shell.
Pip Watch begins on 3/1. Historically, Jackie and Shadow's eggs hatched ~38-39 days. With 3 eggs, it could take a few days longer.
About a day prior to the External Pip, chick pips internally: breaks into the air cell & starts breathing air. At that point, adults may hear vocalizations.
In this video, you'll see a lot of lovely switcheroos and a few funny ones, too. The funnies event is when Shadow flies around the nest with a huge stick and when he finally brings the stick to the nest, it turns out that he lands with the stick on Jackie's neck. It looks funny and a little bit frightening at the same time. As you can imagine, Jackie is not happy about it. She shouts at Shadow and leaves in a hurry.
You'll also see a few Fiona the Flying Squirrel's visits at night and two lovely morning switcheeroos on March 1. There will be two close-ups of eggs.
No PIP has been confirmed yet.
