Low pressure means big bass. Lots of wind and dark sky’s makes for a 20 pound bag on Smith Mountain Lake. #missilebaits mini flip and mini d chunk do the deed.

September on Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia delivered the perfect conditions for big bass action. With a low-pressure system moving through, the fish were active and feeding aggressively. I was working the shoreline structure and deeper points with a black-and-blue jig, feeling the subtle thump as it bumped along submerged rocks and brush piles. The overcast skies and slight breeze gave the lake a moody calm, ideal for coaxing out those bigger, more cautious bass. Each hookset was a jolt of adrenaline—heavy resistance, head shakes, and the telltale surge of a true lunker on the line. The bite was on, and the jig proved to be the ticket for landing some of the biggest bass of the season.
