Hello, Chris TEA here! This time's self-taught journey to art, I visited monkey island Kojima in Kushima City, Miyazaki prefecture!
Kojima (幸島) is an uninhabited island with a circumference of about 15 km. The island is covered with leaved evergreens and a habitat for about 100 Japanese monkeys. The island and the Japanese monkeys were designated as a national natural treasure on January 22, 1934. It was said that there was once a monkey who washed and ate a potato in saltwater. Soon after this behavior was replicated by the other monkeys! You can also see them wash food in saltwater and eat it in this video!
A ferry is available to the island and you can view the monkeys closely. However, although they are not known to attack humans, please use caution and not get too close or trigger aggressive behaviors from them. Also, visitors are not allowed to feed the monkeys.
After this experience, I was inspired to do a painting of one of the monkeys! I hope you will watch till the end to see it! Your support is appreciated and will motivate me to explore different areas of the world to make and improve my art! Thanks!
