Jerusalem (Hebrew: יְרוּשָׁלַיִם, Arabic: القُدس) is a city in Western Asia. Situated on a plateau in the Judaean Mountains between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea, it is one of the oldest cities in the world and is considered to be a holy city for the three major Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
The Old City of Jerusalem is home to many sites of seminal religious importance, among them the Temple Mount with its Western Wall, Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
This wonderful city was founded 4 thousand years ago, and even nowadays it never stops amazing travellers by its splendour, rich choice of sights and unforgettable atmosphere of harmony. Jerusalem is one of the world’s largest religious centres, and it attracts people of different religions – Muslims, Christians and Arabians. Just like the majority of ancient cities, Jerusalem is full of contrasts. Ancient buildings here border with modern houses, and you can endlessly enjoy magnificent landscapes, look at strict lines of churches and cathedrals, and walk on colourful markets and shadowy valleys.
In Jerusalem is located one of the main Christian shrines of the planet - the Temple of the Holy Sepulcher. Once upon a time, in this place where the temple now stands, a cave in which Jesus was buried was discovered. His miraculous resurrection happened here also. Today, pilgrims from all over the world come to bow to the temple and the relics stored in it.
Jerusalem is a popular tourist destination with developed tourism infrastructure and tourism industry in general. The tourism sector is of great importance to Jerusalem.
