There are so many great trumpeters all over the world and Sweden has a lot of them! We had a great time interviewing Bobby’s long-time friend Joachim Tromark recently. He is a fabulous trumpeter, arranger, composer and educator from Sweden. He studied in Europe but also in Los Angeles at the Dick Grove School of Music and took lessons with Bobby Shew and with Chuck Findley.
Joachim has been a member of Sweden’s celebrated "Sandviken Big Band" since 1998 playing second chair and responsible for all solo work. During these years the band has performed with some of the biggest names in the business and has performed for TV-shows and travelled around Europe.
Performances with Swedish stars including Jill Johnson, Anders Berglund, Viktoria Tolstoy, Gunhild Carling, Christer Sjögren, Nils Landgren, Tommy Körberg, Babben Larsson, Peter Asplund, Rigmor Gustavsson etc…
Joachim has also performed with world renowned musicians including James Morrison, Randy Brecker, Diane Schuur, New York Voices, Robben Ford and many others. And if that’s not enough, in addition to playing trumpet and flugelhorn, Joachim also plays EVI.
In this episode we discuss what it was like to study with Shew & Findley as well as his playing philosophy, practice ideas and much more.
