POSTLUDE (1987) On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the death of Joseph REVEYRON (1917-2005), and as a tribute to this great musician from Lyon, inspired composer and successor to Édouard Commette at the great organ of the Primatiale Saint-Jean, I have the immense pleasure of sharing this digital recording made in March 1990 on the great Metzler organs of Geneva's Cathedral Saint-Pierre for the REM label. This recording, made in the presence of the composer, his wife Claude and his daughter Dominique, remains an unforgettable memory. Joseph was a luminous, generous and deeply engaging personality. All his music reflects his inner world and deep spirituality. Happy listening! JOSEPH REVEYRON (1917-2005) composer and organist The author, Joseph Reveyron, french composer and organist, was born in Lyon in 1917. After having started his career as an organist at Our Lady of Mulatière, near his home town, he is named at first assistant and then chair-holder of the Grand Organ of the Cathedral of Lyon, thus succeeding to Master Edouard Commette, with whom he had done all his musical studies. He gives numerous recitals in France and overseas and often in Switzerland, particularly in Lausanne. The works of Joseph Reveyron (choirs, orchestra, organ, solo instruments and songs) are interpreted by groups of international repute. Michel Corboz, while he was directing the vocal ensembles of Lausanne and La Chaux-de-Fond, asked him to compose for them a certain number of profane and religious cantatas. Austria plays his organ works, as do Russia and the U.S.A. In 1974, the Archbishop of Lyon asked him to write a Solemn Mass for the celebration od the swen hundreth anniversary of the Concile. In October 1979, Câline Jaffrès-Malnoury defended a thesis in musicology: « A composer from Lyon, Joseph Reveyron ». Universities of Paris IV - Sorbonne - Lyon II. His works are edited in France and overseas and have often been recorded.
