West coast of Jura is one of the last natural wilderness which one can find in the area of western Europe. It is 50 miles long coastline uninhabited by human, there is no cattle or sheep, no fences, no paths made by man and there are only a few buildings but with no permanent residents living in.
Wild as it can be indeed but exceptionally beautiful with blue turquoise sea and white sand beaches, mountains rising up to the sky, crystal clear rivers, waterfalls and caves. It is easily possible to walk there for days on your own without meeting another human and observe an amazing wildlife including dolphins, seals, otters and eagles. The terrain is hard going - boggy and rocky with many river crossings. Steep ascents and descents or occasional coastal scrambling is often the obstacle as well..
Me and Sofie we discovered this real Scottish paradise in the summer of 2019. To be honest, I have never liked hiking much and mainly went to Jura because of my dog Sofie who I needed to look after anyway as my family was away. And I chose Jura simply because I was curious about where my favourite whisky is coming from:-] What we went through there was incredible though, overcoming obstacles together made our friendship much stronger and the natural beauty we saw was unforgettable. I began to love hiking trips with Sofie on Jura. Two years after first trip it was time to go back to explore even more the wild and remote west coast. We set off for our most challenging and greatest hiking expedition..
